let’s talk about our society
we urge propriety
and deny variety
forcing those who are different
to live with anxiety
of notoriety
killing their sobriety
quietly
we fight divergence violently
thinking we are righteously
entitled to dull out vibrancy
their brilliance is hiding
their fear is deciding
to keep their hands down
their thoughts residing
afraid to speak out
so they keep lying
smiling
by the rules, abiding
humanity is dying
it’s in need of reviving
and we should be striving
to bring variety back
from just surviving in hiding
to thriving
